What to Wear for an Engagement Shoot
Coordinate, don't match: pick a shared palette of two or three colours and dress within it. Bring two outfits each — one casual, one dressed up. Avoid tight patterns, large logos and pure white or neon, which all distract from your faces.
Coordinate, don't match
Identical outfits look like a uniform. Instead, agree on a palette — say, cream, tan and denim — and each pick pieces within it. One person can wear the accent colour, the other the neutral base. Full method: coordinating outfits for couple photos.
Two outfits each
One relaxed (jeans, knit, sneakers), one elevated (a dress, a blazer). Two looks gives your gallery variety without slowing the shoot.

- Tight stripes and small checks (they shimmer on camera)
- Big logos and graphic tees
- Pure white (blows out) and neon (colour-casts your skin)
- Anything you'll fidget with
Match the location
Formal setting, dress up — Black-Tie Gala, Quiet Luxury Lobby. Beach or field, keep it soft and light — Coastal Wind. See also what to wear for couple photos.
Should our outfits match the season?
Yes — heavy knits in July or bare arms in December read as off. Dress for the weather you'll actually be shooting in.
